Let me share a story that continues to inspire me. In 1966, our neighborhood had a problem with kids tossing rocks through windows. One evening, determined, my father came home saying, “If they can throw rocks, they can throw a baseball.“
Motivated by his belief in the power of sports, he founded a baseball and softball league for kids. This initiative impacted countless lives, and my parents, Ted and Jean George, became icons in Grand Island, Nebraska. In their honor, a park was renamed George Park—a symbol of their dedication.
Reflecting on his hard work, I realize how many lives my father influenced. By redirecting destructive energy into sports, he helped steer kids away from a darker path.
This story deeply influenced the founding of MPD Athletic. Inspired by my father’s vision, I’m working to empower individuals by inspiring fitness and a community to create a positive impact. I’ll always remember the lessons my father taught me: embrace passions, give back, and inspire change. We all hold the power to make a difference, just as he did.
Over the years, I’ve discovered that spaces like the gym give people a sense of security and fulfillment. However, there’s another common thread that connects us— heartbreaking stories of lives lost too soon. It hit me hard when I heard tragic stories of two young men at the Nov’ 22 IPL North American Championship. I left that event a champion, and yet felt empty inside for not taking action against mental illness.
It reminded me of my dad’s words: “Don’t wait for things to happen; make things happen.” Inspired by his example of bringing about positive change, I’m determined to help tackle the issue of mental health. Together, we can create a supportive community, where minds and bodies thrive, and no one suffers in silence.
In August, my wife Mary and I will celebrate 40 years of marriage. We have three kids, eight grandkids, and one more on the way. My family means the world to me. Besides them, I have two big loves: classic cars and music.
Around 17 years ago, I made a promise to Mary that when a new gym opened nearby, I’d join. I was 45 then. Little did I know that this promise would change my life.
At 56, I discovered powerlifting, a sport of lifting heavy weights. I’ve achieved a lot since then—breaking records on a global and national level, and holding onto Texas State records in two weight categories.
But it’s not only about records. Through the gym, I’ve met amazing people of all ages. One meet in Houston introduced me to Coach James Strickland. His advice transformed my lifting technique, and he became my bench press coach and mentor.
So here I am, still celebrating love, family, and strength. My story is one of gratitude and the incredible connections I’ve made along the way.
We hope you join us in this journey to fight back against mental illness. Together, let’s redefine the power of fitness and community, forging a path where minds and bodies find strength and support. By promoting awareness, fostering inclusive spaces, and cultivating a culture of empathy, we can break down barriers and uplift those affected by mental health challenges.
Think of the impact we can make when we come together, sharing our stories, struggles, and triumphs. Imagine the possibilities of a world where every individual is empowered to prioritize their well-being, knowing they are not alone on their journey. Let us inspire one another, lifting each other up within this community we’ve built. Together, we can create a resounding chorus of resilience, compassion, and hope, forever changing the landscape of mental health.

In the darkest moments, remember this: help is there for you. You are not alone. Reach out, speak up, and let others lend a hand. Together, we can light the path to prevention and support those in need.
